A new program at Heritage University will put people on the fast track to their Master’s Degree. The Heritage University “Accelerate” program is an alternate route to earning a teaching certificate with a Master’s Degree.
Under HUAccelerate, candidates will attend an intensive five-week summer institute, followed by a year of full-time employment as a teacher while attending weekend classes twice a month. This rigorous schedule allows a candidate to work full-time in a teaching position while becoming certified. By attending classes on Friday night and all day Saturday every other weekend, candidates can earn their Master in Teaching Degree in three semesters instead of the typical five semester schedule.
Merrilou Harrison, the Dean for the College of Education and Psychology at Heritage University, says, “ HUAccelerate is perfect for people who already have a Bachelor’s Degree and want to pursue a career in teaching. They are able to work full-time in a classroom while acquiring their teaching certificate, an endorsement in either English Language Learning or Special Education, and their Master’s Degree.”
To qualify, candidates must already hold a Bachelor’s Degree and be recommended to the program through Heritage University or by school district partners.
