New Heritage University Education Program Accelerates Earning a Master in Teaching

For those who want to earn a master in teaching degree as quickly as possible, Heritage University now has a new program that allows candidates to earn that degree in as little as three semesters, instead of the usual five.

Under “HUAccelerate,” students will attend an intensive five-week summer institute, followed by a year of full-time employment as a teacher while attending weekend classes twice a month. By attending classes on Friday night and all day Saturday every other weekend, candidates can earn their Master in Teaching in three semesters instead of the typical five semester schedule.

Merrilou Harrison, the Dean for the College of Education and Psychology at Heritage University, says HUAccelerate is perfect for people who already have a Bachelor’s Degree and want to pursue a career in teaching as quickly as possible. “If you have a chance to accomplish a goal in three semesters instead of five, why not take the fast lane and finish early? You’ll have your degree sooner than those in other less intensive programs.”

Harrison also says in addition to acquiring their teaching certificate and their Master’s Degree, HUAccelerate allows students to obtain an endorsement in either English Language Learning or Special Education. To qualify, candidates must already hold a Bachelor’s Degree and be recommended to the program through Heritage University or by school district partners.
