Eleven high school students who will receive scholarships to attend Heritage University in the fall of 2015, will be among the 600 academically successful Hispanic middle and high school students recognized at the Yakima Hispanic Academic Achievers Program (HAAP) annual Banquet and Recognition event Friday, May 29, 2015.
Each year Yakima HAAP recognizes students from the Yakima and Union Gap School Districts for their commitment to academic achievement by hosting an annual banquet at the Yakima Convention Center. Yakima HAAP will award scholarships to students who applied for a HAAP scholarship during the year. The amount of the HAAP scholarship ranges from $500 to $1,500.
The recognition banquet, which starts at 6:00 p.m., has been held in May since 1991 and draws as many as 1,200 students and their families. The event immediately follows a college fair featuring representatives of higher education institutions and community organizations. The college fair begins at 4:00 p.m.
