Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month

Author: Maxine Janis  /  Categories: Campus  /

What an opportunity to experience Native culture at Heritage University during Native American Heritage Month.  As Native people we honor our contributions to the history pre and post 1491, the place we call the United States of America, and our proud existence on the lands of our ancestors.  As I think of my place on Heritage University, I’m reminded and recognize the valuable contributions of the founders of the University.  The early vision of Sr. Kathleen Ross, Martha Yallup, Violet Rau, and the Yakama Nation supporting education opportunities for its tribal people has been instrumental in seeing our Native students pass through Heritage University with their dreams fulfilled. I personally honor our relationship with the Yakama Nation especially as we celebrate November - Native American Heritage month.

I invite you to celebrate Heritage University’s Native American Heritage month with activities such as the Round Dance, Roc your Mocs, Native American student day, and finally, Sounding the Sacred Waters - Spirituality and Wellness week.
