Miguel Juarez, Social Work Assistant Professor, and Karen Nicksich, local children’s books author, are teaming up in a project that will give two social work students (Ana Tapia and Delaney Helmersen) at Heritage University an opportunity to make an impact on many lives. With the help of Scott Butner Photography, Karen, Ana, and Delaney are writing a photo documentary book of life changing love as a result of being a parent with a differently abled child. It is called Earth Angels. 10 families will share the joys and challenges of raising a child with special needs.

Earth AngelsThroughout the summer Ana and Delaney developed friendships with the families who will be highlighted in this book. Each student met the families and assisted Scott at two photo shoots. When school begins in August 2017, Ana and Delaney will sort through 1,500 photos to choose which photos will be featured in this book. In addition to working on their practicum, Ana and Delaney will be working with Karen to develop questions and interview the families featured in Earth Angels. “Seeing Ana and Delaney connect with great people will help them realize that they are part of something big and beautiful. I will be forever thankful for the truly limitless potential that these young women have. Earth Angels is a book about community, empowerment, self expression, self esteem and love. I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with Miguel Juarez and Heritage University on this book,” said Karen Nicksich. Earth Angels is being published through Hayhouse and will available before Christmas 2018. To find out how you can help please contact Miguel Juarez at Heritage University.
