Heritage University celebrated the completion of a restoration project for "They Shall Mount Up on Wings as Eagles," during a rededication ceremony last Friday (10/13).

The 15-year-old signature statue, which sits near the entrance to Heritage University off Fort Road, underwent a project where the bronze statue was restored to its original condition.

The work included washing, heating, sandblasting and waxing the statue over a three-day period. The work was performed by a restoration artist from the Walla Walla Foundry.

Several Heritage University officials and community members were part of the rededication ceremony, including former Heritage board chairman Jim Smith who commissioned the statue, and architect Ed Weber, who designed the statue.

“This was a work of love and art and patience, and to see it go down in beauty of the last few years has been very hard,” said Smith. “So we’re thrilled to see the beauty of the statue restored to the way it originally was.”

The university invited members of the HU Student Government Association to remove the sheet covering the front of the statue and unveiling it to the audience.
