Five high school seniors received the news of a lifetime when they were awarded full-tuition scholarships to attend Heritage University through the Act Six Leadership and Scholarship Initiative.

Those receiving the award are:

Nelson Avila Mendoza, A.C. Davis High School
Estefani Cruz, Wapato High School
Irwin Godinez Cruz, Toppenish High School
Stephanie Maybee, Selah High School
Yanet Torres, Zillah High School

Act Six is an initiative of the Northwest Leadership Foundation that partners community foundations with universities to provide full-tuition, full-need scholarships to students of promise.

Here in the Yakima Valley, the Act Six initiative is managed through the Yakima Community Foundation in partnership with Heritage. In addition to the financial award, Act Six students also receive extensive leadership training during the months between receiving the award and enrolling in the university.

The recipients were selected through a rigorous three-month competition from a pool of more than 100 applicants. They were selected based on their commitment to serving on campus and in their home communities, passion for learning, eagerness to foster intercultural relationships and willingness to step out of their comfort zones.
